THE STORY BEHIND THE MURAL

This is the second mural in Murphysboro from the Revitalize 62966 – Arts In The Community committee. This mural was painted on panels, inspired by a photograph taken in 1939 from the exact location, and attached to a historical building in the downtown area, paying homage to a view of the business district area. Historic buildings, shops, streets, businesses, daily activities, structural designs, architectural aspects, and the fantastic red truck all evoke memories of the town’s history. This mural was funded by a generous donation from The Voss Family. You can shut your eyes and feel the brakes apply as you pause and let yourself be transported to a bygone moment. This tribute to the past showcases the unique and beautiful elements in and around our hometown of Murphysboro. This mural was funded by a generous donation from The Voss Family.

Each mural takes a whimsical nod to the town’s hallmark by hiding in plain sight a caricature of an apple 🍎.
