Dave Parrish began playing the blues in the house band at the Kingston Mines in Chicago with Lavelle White, Bob Stroger and John McDonald (who is now playing with Magic Slim). He then started playing gigs with Willie Kent, Diedre Farr, West Side Heat, Chico Chism, Valerie Wellington and other staples of the Chicago blues scene. After Chicago he moved to southern Illinois and played with Martin “Big Larry” Allbritton where he first met James Barnes who was playing drums for Larry. When Martin left to join his brother Big Twist’s band The Mellow Fellows Dave and James started playing with the late great Snooky Pryor. With Snooky they played such places as the King Biscuit Festival and James went on tour in Japan with the band. Mike Alderfer moved to Carbondale in 2005 and met Dave. A couple years later they started King Juba with James and Brad Bell. The current lineup now includes multi-instrumentalist Shadi Frick on keyboards and saxophone. Brandon Dyer and Eddie Chapa also are regular alternate bassists.
